Epsom Salts Amount

How much Epsom Salts are you guys putting in to get to 1.3SG or even 1.25SG?

I am only going on rough estimates based on some Google searches and other info which isn’t giving me exact amounts, or an equation to figure it out.

And I figure for 1000 litres, haven’t measured exactly yet, I need 363kg of Epsom Salts.

On the other hand, one site said 1 kg of Epsom salts per 1.25 litres of water, which would lead to 800kg Epsom Salts for 1000 litres.

This seems ridiculous. I’d probably spend half the cost of my tank on SALT! lol

So how are you guys figuring out the amount you need? Cheers!

Any equations etc in gallons is fine, I’ll convert myself.

In John Lilly’s “The Deep Self” he gives the equation of 43.46 lbs of epsom salt for every cubic foot of solution. This is to get a 1.3 SG. Here is a link to a site where you can read the book. http://www.scribd.com/doc/7308386/John-C-Lilly-Isolation-TANK-THE-DEEP-SELF

I highly recommend you read chapter 11, which is on use and maintenance of the tank. Keep in mind that while he says DE filters are the best kind, this book was written in the 70s and better filters are now available.
