I have a lifegard aquatics single mechanical filter, and recent i added non chlorine shock to treat the water, ive done it before but this time the water turned very brown. Obviously the oxidating agents have bound to the iron and manganese in the water (even though i bought usp grade epsom). i filled my tank with city water that ran through a chlorine filter. ive done this before without problems, but this time it turned very murky. i also added a clarifier but it doesnt seem to do much good. is my filter too sucky? is there a better way to clear up the water. maybe as the oxidating agents degrade, the metals will redisolve into the water…? What else can i do?
